Program Description: This presentation will examine the rich history of the Great Lakes region, particularly its role in U.S. expansion, through transportation, economic growth and defense, and relatable genealogical record sets. Topics covered in this 60-minute presentation include:

  • Examination of Great Lakes Geography
  • Native American Influences
  • Commerce
  • War and Defense
  • Ethnic Groups common to the Great Lakes area and where they settled
  • Records useful for tracing your Great Lakes area ancestor

    There will be time for Q & A.

    About the Presenter: Cari A. Taplin is a native of Wood County, Ohio but now lives in Longmont, Colorado. Cari holds the Certified Genealogist® credential and has served in a wide variety of volunteer and leadership positions for state, local, and national societies. She currently serves as the Secretary for the Association for Professional Genealogists (APG) and as the President of the Lone Star Chapter of APG. She is the owner of GenealogyPANTS and currently works for Ancestry ProGenealogists. Cari’s personal research focuses on midwestern and Great Lakes states. When not working on her genealogy, Cari is a wife and a mother of two young adults.
