Program Cancellations

March Meeting Cancellation:

The Western New York Genealogical Society (WNYGS) Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel our Saturday March 21, 2020 presentation on Genealogical Lineage Societies due to the ongoing concerns with COVID-19 and the decision by the Erie County Health Commissioner to limit access to the BECPL.

Our guest presenter, Jeanette Sheliga, has graciously agreed to reschedule her talk for our regularly scheduled monthly meeting on May 16, 2020. On that day, Rhonda Hoffman will also presenting ‘DNA Testing for Genealogy’. Full and final information on the May meeting be sent out to the membership in late April or early May.

April Bus Trip & Member Meet-up Cancellation:

Rochester Genealogical Society has also cancelled "Genealogy in Bloom" scheduled for April 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 related closure of the LDS venue. As a result, the Western New York Genealogical Society will be no longer be hosting our planned bus trip and member meet-up.

Programs and Continuing Education for the Remainder of the Year:

While we continue to monitor the situation, our fall schedule is unaffected at this time. The Society is currently working on the possibility of a spring webinar, and shortly, we will be emailing/mailing members the updated link for previously recorded Society programs.

Monthly Library Research Assistance Suspended

It is with deep caring and respect for our volunteers, patrons, BECPL library staff, and the community-at-large that Society has made the decision to temporarily suspend our scheduled volunteer sessions as recommended by the CDC and NYS Department of Health until April 1, 2020. As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to develop, the Society will be regularly evaluating and reassessing the situation.

We thank you for your support and understanding, and we wish all wellness and safety.
